Lisa Gryffyths: Artist & Instructor
About
Lisa Gryffyths
Lisa is a burgeoning children’s illustrator with a passion for light and color. Most recently she has co-published her children’s book debut “The Stream” together with author Thomas C Hicks. Lisa is also an instructor at the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts and continues to work in the Game Art and Design department since 2018. She teaches and develops curricula in a variety of courses, including Concept & Illustration, Figure Drawing and 3D Asset Creation. In addition, Lisa enjoys collaborating with other faculty to mentor and direct students as they develop group project games.
Prior to this, she held character focused roles in studio settings in which she produced Concept & Production Art as well as Animation. After graduating from both the Digital and Classical Animation programs at Capilano University, Lisa first worked as a freelance artist on children’s TV show pitches and educational games. She then gained her first studio experience at Blue Castle Games where she learned the pipeline for realistic console games such as The Bigs 2 and MLB Manger, then transitioned onto the action adventure title Dead Rising 2 at Capcom. She later made the shift into mobile games where she worked on Sky Punks, a children’s title, at Fathom Interactive and Madlands Mobile at IGG.
Lisa has also taken time to explore human development through a biopychosocial lens while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at UBC as well as on a personal somatic level during her meditation practice. As a result, she is keen to connect with and create from a child’s perception, to visually express the unique challenges, discoveries and realizations that propel forward the formative years of our human experience.
